The salary structure of the Nigerian Navy is structured in a way that the higher a person’s rank, the greater their income. The government of Nigeria pays the salaries of the military, including the Nigerian Navy. In addition to their basic salary, Navy officers receive a number of allowances, some of which are specific to the branch of the military in which they serve.
According to the Nigerian Navy, an officer in the lowest rank, which is the Ordinary Seaman, earns a monthly salary of N50,000. This salary is subject to change at anytime by the government. The highest-rank officer, which is the Admiral, earns a monthly salary of N1,858,595.
SSCE certificate holders in the Nigerian Navy are paid between N50,000 – N57,000 as their starting salary while the NCE and National Diploma holders are paid between N57,000 to N60,000 as their starting salary. BSC certificate holders and HND holders are paid about N217,459 monthly.
These figures are not part of other allowances that they may receive, which include the housing allowance, transport allowance, and medical allowance.
