Nigerian Governors Salary 2024
As of 2024, Nigerian governors receive a basic salary and various allowances which are determined by the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
Each state governor earns an annual salary of approximately ₦7.78 million. This salary includes a monthly basic salary of around ₦648,580, with allowances that cover aspects such as accommodation, medical expenses, and travel. They are also entitled to a vehicle loan amounting to 400% of their annual basic salary, which totals ₦8.89 million. In addition, governors are eligible for a severance gratuity of ₦6.67 million at the end of their tenure.
Apart from the basic salary mentioned above, there are other benefits they are entitled to which includes leave allowances (about ₦222,370) and foreign travel provisions, with no fixed cap on their allowances for official travel outside Nigeria.
Meanwhile, some people are complaining about the salary that it’s way too much for the Governors considering our minimum wage of ₦70,000 for many public workers. Moreover, the nature of additional funds like travel allowances marks it hard to understand a governor’s full compensation.

Deputy governors, on the other hand, earn slightly less, with an annual salary of around ₦7.39 million, and receive similar benefits such as accommodation, medical coverage, and travel allowances.
While the base salary figures are fixed, Nigerian governors enjoy many kinds of supplementary benefits that boost their overall earnings.
